Many people tend to perceive our skin only as a protective tissue that does not need any additional treatment but basic hygiene.
The truth is that the skin is a very important organ, a complex system of nerves, layers (epidermis, dermis and subcutis) and glands. The first layer is made of the protein keratin, and the cells called keratinocytes form layers that replace those exterior cells that flake off.
The first layer alarms our body when we are in danger of infection or viruses. The second, dermis, gives the skin elasticity and strength, and due to the blood vessels, it helps regulate the body temperature and blood flow. The subcutis layer serves as a cushion from falling and knocks.
Like any other organ, the skin is aging and becoming thinner and damaged. We cannot stop the aging, but we can slow it down.
The best way to protect our skin is to use natural sources for treatment. This is a list of some easy-to-prepare body peels and healing body scrubs.
Salt And Sweet Body Treatment
Mix a teaspoon of sea salt and sugar with almond oil until the mixture becomes compact. Add 5 to 6 drops of Lavender essential oil and 2 to 3 drops of Rosemarie essential oil. Apply the mixture on your body. If you have serious problems with the skin on the elbows, knees and heels, spend more time treating these parts of the body.
When applying the mixture, use gentle circular movements. Remove the peel with water, and use body lotion. Repeat this treatment 2 – 3 times a week. If you have sensitive skin, use less amount of ingredients and take care that the mixture is thinner.
Almond oil is excellent for your skin due to the aromatherapy effect and relief of pain. Sea salt increases circulation and relaxation.
Vanilla Body Peel
Sugar is a great abrasive, while vanilla, in this treatment, is responsible for the sweet and pleasant smell. Use one cup of sugar and add sunflower oil, approximately one-third of the same cup you used for sugar.
Stir the mixture slowly, and then add 20 drops of vanilla essential oil. Apply the peel and wait for 5 minutes, then remove it with hot water.
Coffee Body Peel
Mix two cups of coarse ground coffee, ½ cup of coarse sugar or sea salt and 2 to 3 teaspoons of marigold oil. Mix it well and then add one teaspoon of cinnamon and 8 drops of orange and grape essential oil. Apply it on the wet skin. Use a circular motion while gently applying it on the body.
After the shower, use body lotion for the additional glow of the skin. This treatment can help you remove redness and inflammation of the skin, and get rid of the cellulite.
Coconut Body Peel
Add two teaspoons of coconut oil into ½ cup of sea salt. Mix it well and add a teaspoon of lavender oily extract.
Apply the mixture, and use lukewarm water to remove the peel. Coconut is great for underlying skin tissue and for removing excessive dead cells on the surface.
After this treatment, you will see how beneficial coconut is for an additional skin shine.
Body Peel For Oily Skin
In a cup of sea salt, add 1/3 cup of jojoba oil. Stir it until the mixture is uniform and then add 8 drops of sandal essential oil and 6 drops of lavender and lemon.
Gently massage the body with circular motions and remove it with lukewarm water.
Body Treatment For A Sensitive Skin
For this treatment, you will need a cup of wheat flour, lavender, rose and orange essential oil and chamomile. Mix 8 teaspoons of lavender, rose and orange essential oil with wheat flour and stir it slowly. Next, add 4 drops of chamomile oil.
For the treatment, mix one teaspoon of this paste and a little water then apply it on the body. Rinse it with lukewarm water. The life shelf of this body peel is approximately a year, but it has to be stored in a dark and cold place; you can also keep it in the refrigerator.
Papaya Body Peel
For this treatment, you will need a bag of frozen papaya and a bag of frozen pineapple. Use a blender and put one cup of defrosting pineapple and ½ cup of defrosting papaya with two tablespoons of honey.
Blend the ingredients until the mixture is smooth and pour it in a container with a secure lid.
Cleanse your skin gently, and leave the peel on your skin for about five minutes. Rinse it off with cold water and use a towel to pat your skin dry. Repeat the treatment once a week.
Papaya is rich with antioxidants, therefore, is excellent for skin impurities.
Mashed papaya is perfect for cracked and sore heels.
Citrus Body Peel
Use a small bowl for the lemon and orange juice. Squeeze one lemon and one orange into the bowl and heat it in the microwave until it is hot. Add one packet of unflavored gelatin. Stir it and wait for the gelatin to dissolve.
Apply the mixture on your skin and leave it for 5 to 10 minutes. Rinse it with warm water and pat your skin dry.
After the treatment, you can use a body lotion or moisture. Citrus fruit is perfect for skin due to the rich content of vitamins. It is powerful for rejuvenating the skin, removing the skin build-ups.
Pumpkin Body Scrub
Pour 1 ½ cup of packed brown sugar into a bowl and break it down. Mix it with 2 tablespoons of ground coffee and 1 ½ tablespoon of pumpkin pie spice. You can also combine ginger, cloves and nutmeg in case you do not have pumpkin spice.
Mix it well and add ¾ cup of oil of your choice, for instance, the Sunflower oil will do great.
Mix the ingredients and put in it the airtight glass container. You can store it in the refrigerator for longer usage or add vitamin E oil.
